Artist. Activist. Rebel. Chain smoker.
Sean Penn puffs tobacco whenever and wherever he wants. If you’re the owner of a swanky hotel with a proper dress code policy posted next to the No Smoking signs? Chances are Penn won’t be paying attention to any of it. This here is one Hollywood talent who refuses to play by the rules. You’d have better luck talking a tiger into a tutu than shaming an apology out of Penn.
Here’s the thing: Sean Penn rarely, if ever, smokes onscreen (Spicoli not withstanding). Sean saves his cig swigging for civilian life. Our Malibu dude seemingly can’t get enough of those tobacco sticks. The reason may have less to do with the nicotine kick and more about an acting trick.
It’s been rumored the two-time Best Actor winner has been discovering his way into roles by studying his invariable mugging made while having a smoke. So perhaps Penn’s puffing isn’t just a leisurely hobby after all. And with every pack of smokes, Sean could very well be taking the famous “Method Studio” approach out of archaic darkness. Lighting up to a new evolution. Call it Menthol acting.
